Can anyone have a Notre Dame wedding?
Everyone is invited to celebrate after the ceremony on campus. Anyone can have a Notre Dame wedding reception! Notre Dame wedding receptions are open to anyone, not just those who went to school at the University of Notre Dame, but there are a few more guidelines for Notre Dame wedding ceremonies. To get married in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on campus, you must be one of the following:
- A current Notre Dame student
- An alumnus/a of Notre Dame
- An active member of Sacred Heart Parish for at least two years before scheduling a wedding date
- A current full-time member of the faculty or staff who has been employed at the University of a minimum of five years.
If you fulfill at least one of those requirements, you are able to get married at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. But, we welcome anyone who would like to celebrate and have the reception on campus!
What other locations on campus can have a Notre Dame wedding ceremony?
Because wedding ceremonies are only allowed to take place in sacred spaces, Diocesan guidelines require that weddings at Notre Dame be celebrated only at the Basilica (seats 700), Lady Chapel (seats 60), Log Chapel (seats 35), or Mary, Queen of Angels Chapel (seats 125). Wedding ceremonies cannot take place in any other location on campus.

Wedding packages can also fluctuate during high-peak times of the year.
When should I start planning my Notre Dame wedding?
As soon as you receive the date for your wedding ceremony, the Notre Dame Weddings team should be your next call. Our venues book up fast, so it is also important to get your reception, rehearsal and farewell brunch location on campus booked as well.
